What exactly is a lineman’s rodeo? Well unfortunately, there are no bulls or rodeo clowns. Instead, the Lineman’s Rodeo attracts some of the most skilled linemen in the world to compete in a variety of events based on traditional lineman tasks and skills. While the “International Tree Climbing Competition” may have been a better way to describe this event, it really just doesn’t have the same ring to it as the Lineman’s Rodeo.
Over 200 teams of apprentices will be on hand to participate in the 2013 International Lineman’s Rodeo & Expo which kicks off this week just outside of Kansas City, Kansas. The expo portion of the event will be held on October 17-18 and will be located at the Overland Park Convention Center at 6000 College Blvd., Overland Park, KS. The actual rodeo will be held on Saturday, October 19 in Bonner Springs, Kansas at the National Agriculture Center & Hall of Fame.
There will also be a free safety & training conference on October 16-17 at the Overland Park Convention Center. This conference will host key industry speakers talking about a variety of safety and training topics that shouldn’t be missed if you have the time to go.
The fun kicks off with a BBQ on Friday night, October 18 at the Overland Park Convention Center. The BBQ will feature trade night again this year, so be ready to make some swaps. The awards banquet will follow the rodeo on Saturday October 19th. Transportation will be provided from the Marriott and Embassy Suites.
